Biggest Roll Cake in Ibaraki

Updated: Oct 9, 2021

Writing this post felt really weird. The reason being, I am going to talk about a bakery and their delicious roll cake without ever setting foot in said bakery. Let me explain, a few weeks ago, the wife came home from work and had a huge bag with her. She explained she got a present from one of her customers, and the present was from Hitachi city. It was from a famous bakery there called Kazumi.

If you can't read katakana, that means "delicious." Yeah, that is what is written on the roll cake. According to the wife, the shop has been around for 20 years and they are really well known for their roll cake. The bakery is pretty close to the Ibaraki University Hitachi Campus and seems to be quite popular. Again, I have yet to go there but when I laid eyes on their roll cake, I thought about visiting the place soon.

The Roll Cake

Kazumi's roll cake is huge. If you have a birthday party or any other kind of event, I highly suggest ordering it. It will be enough for everyone at the party. At the time of writing this post the wife and I ate half of the cake and we were extremely full. We still have the other half in our refrigerator. The wife told me that this huge roll cake was around 1500 yen which is surprisingly cheap for its size. I expected it to be more around 3000. But how does it taste?

Delicious!

I am quite comfortable in saying that this is the best roll cake I have ever had in Japan. Cutting into it felt so satisfying because it was amazingly soft. The cream wasn't too sweet and neither was the cake part. It had just enough sweetness to make me sit back and appreciate life. Digging my fork into that cake was the highlight of my night. Everything in that roll cake was perfect. The only problem was that there was no way the wife and I were going to finish the roll cake in one sitting. So we are going to have to finish it the next day. Something delicious and fun to look forward to.

I do plan on going to Kazumi sometime in the near future. I want to check out what else the bakery has to offer. But for now, I still have half a roll cake to finish.

So if you are in Hitachi and need a huge cake for an event or for yourself, why not give Kazumi a try. Who knows, you might see me there, eventually.

Enjoy!

For more information on Kazumi, check out their...ummm, oh, they don't really have a website or anything. I can give you their Google maps location:
