German Brewing Done Right!

What's that? German beer and German sausage you say? Count me in! I am always up for some delicious German beer accompanied by different varieties of sausage. Where can you get both delicious options? At Tsukuba's very own Twin Peaks Mountain Brewery.

Twin Peaks Mountain Brewing

Twin Peaks is located in the Higashiarai area of Tsukuba. It isn't that far from Tsukuba center. I want to say that it is a 10 minute walk from Tsukuba station. You can drive there as well and there is parking available.

The Ibaraki Eats Duo decided to grab some dinner and beer one summer night in August. We were both very excited to get our sausage and beer on.

Inside

Twin Peaks has inside seating and outside seating. I love outside seating, but that night was a hot humid night so we decided to sit inside.

The inside part of the brewery is really nice and everything looks brand new. There are plants hanging around the ceiling and a lot of tables to choose from. You can also check out the big beer brewing tanks in the next room. It really feels like a brewery and a fun place to drink.

The owner, who I believe is German, gave us the menu to check out.

Craft Beer Menu

As I have said in past posts, I am not a beer expert. If it is delicious, I drink it. I also am not an IPA guy, so not drinking that.

The craft beer menu has all the beers listed in Japanese and English/German. But the longer explanation of the beers are in Japanese. So it might be a bit difficult for non-Japanese speakers to understand. The good news is, the next page of the menu has a graph explaining how strong, bitter, light, and dark the beers are. Also, the staff has no problem explaining the different beers on the menu.

Food Menu

There are a lot of different dishes to choose from in Twin Peaks. There are even Mexican dishes in the menu. We were there for German food however, so the Mexican food would wait for next time.

One page of the food menu is dedicated to sausages. It is a glorious page. So many sausages to choose from. If you can't choose, you can always get the assorted platter and try them all, which I highly recommend.

Märzen

I only tried one beer the night we visited and that was the Märzen. According to the menu, it wasn't a bitter beer and it wasn't too strong. It was somewhere in the middle. I took a sip and automatically liked it. It was smooth, delicious, and an overall great beer to have. It felt like it was a good beer for when you are just sitting around with friends and chilling out.

I really enjoyed Märzen, but I still have more beer to try at Twin Peaks.

Obatzda Camembert Dip with Baguette

Our first plate to come to our table was interesting but not my favorite. The Camembert cheese dip had so much in it, it took my taste buds for a spin. It went really well with the slices of toasted baguette and the Camembert was delicious. It was a nice starter to our main course.

Pretzel

Pretzels! Do you know how hard it is to get pretzels in Ibaraki!? When I saw that on the menu, I immediately ordered it. The pretzel went really well with my Märzen. It didn't have salt, but to be honest, it didn't really need it. The pretzel was very tasty and I recommend ordering it.

I do have to admit, I don't think Twin Peaks makes their own pretzels. I believe the pretzels come from Backerei Brotzeit, which I have written about before. Nevertheless, you should order one of these amazing pretzels to go with your beer.

Sausage Assorted Platter

This platter, is nothing short than amazing. Look at all those appetizing looking sausages. Oh, and what is that under the sausages? Creamy mashed potatoes! You, sausage assorted platter, have captured my heart. My wife and I got to work on the platter after admiring it for a minute. The staff will cut up the sausages for you if you'd like, but we prefer to do our own cutting.

I loved every single sausage that came in that platter, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Nürnberger. That sausage had a sort of light taste but still had a meaty flavor. It was baffling, exciting, and extremely tasty. Mix that with the mashed potatoes and it is total bliss.

I will be having this platter again. Hopefully in the near future.

I'll be back!

My wife and I really enjoyed our time, beer, and meal at Twin Peaks. We will go back soon. We still have different craft beers to try and other food menu items to consume. Not to mention, I need to get that sausage platter again.

So if you are in the mood for some delicious German beer, amazing sausage, and a great time, why not swing on by to Twin Peaks? Who knows, you might see me there, with a new beer to try and enjoying that heavenly sausage platter.

Enjoy!
