Mark your calendars my fellow Ibarakians, Burger Baka is coming next month! Sunday, March 20th, to be exact, and this guy can't wait to get his hands on Ibaraki's tastiest burgers. The great news is, is that this event is on the long weekend in March. So you have an extra day to relax and get over the burger coma from all the burgers you will try.
Place
Every year, Burger Baka has been held in Naka city, but not this year. This year, this burger extravaganza will be held in Kasama city, in Geijutsu no Mori. If you have never been to this park, let me tell you, it is huge. There are open spaces everywhere and there are even places where you can make pottery. There will be way more space here than in the Naka city location. Check out the map to see exactly where the event will be at.
The Burgers
There are going to be a lot of different burgers to try at this event but here are a few I recommend:
If you want to try something interesting and delicious, give Chashu Burger a shot. It is a big piece of chashu between two buns, what isn't there to love?
Cafe Arco-Iris, the patty meat is heavenly and the owner does magic tricks while cooking burgers.
One of my favorite burger cars, Peace Grill, has a great selection of burgers and I am never disappointed when I try a new burger from this burger genius.
Finally, when I read the name of this burger shop on the list, my heart fluttered with glee. Tsukuba's own, Drool Diner will be at this event. I highly recommend you give the greatest cheeseburgers in all of Ibaraki a chance at Burger Baka.
If you want to learn more about these burger places, check out my past Burger Month posts.
There are still way more burger shops on the list to try at Burger Baka. I can't wait to try as many as my stomach will allow.
Before I end this post, I just want to say that we live in uncertain corona times. There is a chance that Burger Baka might get cancelled. As of now, I haven't heard any news of the event being cancelled. If I do hear anything, I will update this post asap.
The greatest burger event in Ibaraki, nay Japan, is an event you shouldn't miss. I hope to see you there. Let's get our burger on!
Update 3/14/2022
Great news everyone! It looks like Burger Baka is going ahead as scheduled. Sunday, March 20th 10:00-3:00.
I wanted to post the link to the Burger Baka Instagram page so you can check out the different burger shops that will be attending, and get the latest information on the event.
Some things to note. Everything on the Instagram page is in Japanese. The page explains that there are some rules for this event which pertain to corona virus safety. A lot of the rules we know very well because we have been living under them for a while.
Wear a mask, 2 meters apart, don't come if you are feeling sick.
Other things to note is there are no tables or chairs at this event so bring your own camping chairs or picnic blankets. Also, take your trash with you.
Finally, if you have been in Ibaraki since the pandemic started, you know about the Amabie Covid email system. You will have to do this before entering the event. If you can't use the email system, you will have to write down your name and number for the staff. This is in case anyone tests positive and the event coordinators can contact you later.
Let's stay safe and enjoy some amazing burgers. Hope to see you there!
