This post is for all ramen and food challenge lovers out there. I don't mean an "all you can eat challenge," I mean a "how much spice can you handle challenge." Can you consume ramen that is meant for the Oni of Japan? If your answer is yes, then you might want to try Oni No Me Nomi Namida.

Oni No Me Nimo Namida
Tears even in the eyes of demons is the translation. This name is way too long so I am going to refer to this place as Oni Ramen from now on. Oni Ramen is located in the Nagakuni area of Tsuchiura city. It is pretty close to my favorite ramen place Ryuusuke. The Ibaraki Eats Duo visisted this place one cold Tuesday evening. We wanted to warm up with some spicy ramen, and try the ramen meant for demons.

The Menu
The menu is on a ticket vending machine as per usual. You have five ramen to choose from:
Special ramen (comes with everything), nikku mashi ramen (extra meat), pakuchi ramen, ajitama ramen, simple miso ramen, and the special tantanmen.
You can also order all these ramen tsukemen style.
When you order your ramen, you can also get a side dish of gyoza and even a cheese rice bowl.

The Spice Level
Next, you have the spice level and the electric numbing level. The level goes from nothing to oni killer. Unfortunately, I am not as great as I used to be when it comes to spice, so I ordered the futsu, normal, level of spice and electric numbing. My wife did as well.

Inside
We gave our tickets to the staff and waited. The inside of the ramen place played taiko music the entire time we were there. It was cool at first but then drove me a bit crazy towards the end. If you visit Oni Ramen, make sure to check out the walls. There are a bunch of really cool oni masks to check out.

Special Ramen
This was my wife's ramen and I think she made an excellent choice. Even at normal spice level we both ended up coughing a few times from the spice. The spicy miso broth was good and the noodles were delicious as well. But the main attraction of this ramen was the chashu. It was so soft and flavorful. It went really well with the broth. I can get used to this demon ramen. The ajitamago, ramen egg, was a nice touch to the broth as well.

Tantanmen
Next up was my ramen. Honestly, this ramen had a lot going on and I wasn't a huge fan, but it wasn't a bad ramen. The soup had a bit of a kick to it but it was lighter compared to my wife's ramen. The noodles were really good though and the minced pork went well with the broth. Unfortunately, this isn't my style of ramen and I probably won't be ordering it again. My wife's ramen was a winner though.
After my wife and I finished our ramen. We headed back home not even feeling the cold December air thanks to our spicy ramen.
Oni Ramen was quite an experience. It has tasty ramen, but I see this place as more of a challenge and fun experience rather than a normal ramen experience. Which is good but not something I'd go to often. As the name suggests, you may end up crying from the spiciness of the ramen. If it is too spicy, the staff will give you some cheese for your ramen to take the edge off.
So if you are brave enough and have high spice tolerance to try the ramen that is meant for the Oni of Japan, why not give Oni No Me Nimo Namida a chance. Who knows, you might see me there, wondering who would be crazy enough to try the oni killer level. Is it you?
Enjoy!
