Side Note, 24 hour non contact gyoza!?

Last month I skimmed through an article on Soranews24 about a place that is open 24 hours a day and has zero staff inside. The place only sold frozen gyoza and you just went in, grabbed your gyoza, paid and left. No one in the store. That is really ideal for the current situation we are all in where we are trying to avoid people. Soranews24 usually talks about Tokyo so I thought " I don't think there are any of those in Ibaraki" and forgot about the article.

Then during silver week, my wife and I were driving back to Tsuchiura from Ami Premium Outlet Mall. We were in Ami Town at a red light and my wife looked to her right. She tapped my shoulder to get my attention and said "isn't that the place you were talking about, the 24 hour gyoza place." I looked over and in excitement said "they have one in Ibaraki!" After our little conversation, my wife pulled into the parking lot and we decided to buy some gyoza. In we go to 餃子雪松 Gyoza Yukimatsu.

No one's here !

When we walked in, we both said "there really is no one here." No staff, no cash register. Just a room with a big refrigerator, a TV explaining the rules and how everything worked, and a small box on the right side. Everything looked brand new so I am sure this place just recently opened. We read the rules on how to pay and get our gyoza. It was really quite simple.

Grab a bag

First, grab your gyoza from the big refrigerator. The gyoza is in two packs totaling 36 dumplings. Both packs of gyoza are already put in a plastic bag and ready to carry out. The gyoza is frozen so you will have to cook it when you get home but it is pretty easy to cook. If you are worried about your gyoza defrosting before you get home, you can take two ice packs from the refrigerator to keep your gyoza frozen (which are free) and there are thermal bags near the TV (which are a 100 yen a bag). This can be very convenient, especially in the summer. This place also has soy sauce to take home for your gyoza dipping needs but when my wife and I went they were all sold out. I believe the soy sauce was a 100 yen extra.

Pay here

Next, time to pay. The two gyoza packs are 1000 yen. My wife was surprised by how cheap it was. "1000 yen for 36!?" She made it clear we were coming back here in the future. All you have to do is walk up to the donation looking box, drop in your yen and you are done. It is that simple.  Finally, you walk out of the place, go home and cook your gyoza. Cooking the gyoza is really easy. Just heat up a pan with cooking oil, put in the frozen gyoza, add some water for steaming, cover the pan, wait and they are done. I cooked the gyoza we bought a few days ago and they were delicious. The gyoza is regular gyoza which consists of ground pork and vegetables. Super easy to buy, super easy to make.  Going to this place was a really fun experience and very safe considering no one is in there. If the thought that "can't anyone just walk in and take the gyoza without paying" crossed your mind, the place does have cameras everywhere so no you cannot do that.

If you are looking for a quick and easy dinner, lunch or even breakfast that can feed a small family, give Gyoza Yukimatsu a shot. They are open 24 hours a day so you can have gyoza at three in the morning if you want. You will have your meal ready in a jiffy.

Enjoy!

They even have a cute video on how to cook your gyoza:

Sorry my non-Japanese speakers, everything on the website and in the store is in Japanese. But just follow the rules above and you will be eating delicious gyoza in no time.
