Side Note: Oarai's Craft Beer

In Oarai city, there is a small Outlet mall near the Oarai Marine Tower. The Outlet mall has a few stores and cafes; Saza Coffee, surfing stores, and an Indian restaurant. What really surprised me though is there is a new craft beer shop that looks like a fun place to enjoy beer.

Beach Culture Brewing

Beach Culture Brewing is a new craft beer shop that opened up last year. To be honest, the Outlet mall is a husk of what it used to be. After the 2011 earthquake, the mall never really recovered. A lot of stores have closed with only a few places and a well known supermarket in the area there staying open.

So I was in shock when I found this new place, and not only was it new but it was a craft beer place. I told my wife that I had to try it.

Brand New

When you walk inside, everything looks really new. At the counter, you have 5 different beers to choose from.

A pale ale called the Surfer

IPA, another beer called the Fisherman, a brown ale called the Playboy, a porter called the Ukulele, and a special that was a chestnut flavored beer. This one maybe a seasonal beer but that is the one I chose.

Chill Out

The micro brew has a really chill atmosphere and I would have liked to sit down there and have a beer. Unfortunately, I was driving that day so I would have to try my chestnut beer at home. As of the time of writing this post, Beach Culture Brewing serves no food. It is strictly a beer place so don't come hungry.

Chestnut Beer

How was the chestnut beer, you might be asking? Not bad, not great but not bad. It was a light beer with a hint of chestnut flavor. I think this is a good beer to have on a hot summer day, because it goes down smooth and kept me cool. Other than that, nothing really special about it. I did enjoy my visit to Beach Culture Brewing, even though I wasn't impressed by their seasonal beer. I do want to go back and try their brown ale. Preferably, in summer when I am coming back from Oarai beach. I would love to hear the opinions of the micro brew connoisseurs in Ibaraki. Tell me what you think.
