Taco and Quesadilla Tuesday!

I always get asked, "where can I get some good tacos in Ibaraki?" I always give a Tex Mex answer to this question. Either To mecca in Mito, or Mosh and Tacos in Toride. I have written about both places, and both places are fantastic. But I was never able to give an answer for Mexican style tacos, until now!

Tres Club

The Ibaraki Eats Duo found a tacos place on Instagram and decided one Tuesday evening to grab some tacos in Moriya city. The name of this taco place is Tres Club, and it is located very close to Moriya station. Tres Club is on the second floor of a small building filled with restaurants and izakayas. Unfortunately, Tres Club doesn't have it's own parking, so you need to use a pay to park parking area near the restaurant. Or you can come by train. It is a three minute walk from the station.

Inside

Walking into Tres Club, I got a very west coast California Mexican vibe to the place. There were cactuses everywhere, a big corona beer balloon, and west coast 90s hip hop was playing on the restaurant's speakers. I heard Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre the whole time I was there. The restaurant isn't too big. I believe it can fit up to 20 people max.

We sat at our table and checked out the menu.

The Menu

I got some good news and some bad news my fellow Ibarakians. The good news is the tacos and quesadillas page of the menu is in Japanese and English! The bad news is the Speed Menu page is only in Japanese. No worries, I will try to translate all of it.

The top part of the menu is small little side dishes: chibogado(some type of avocado I guess), pickles, guacamole and chips, wasabi mayo avocado, and spiced mixed nuts.

Under that, the menu has: beef fajitas, special nachos, jerk chicken (for some reason), buffalo wings, and sorry my picture cuts it off but I think it is corn chips with salsa.

At the very bottom of the page is the rice bowls: garlic pork rice, taco rice, and Tres Club's curry and rice.

Special Nachos

Stop scrolling, read this next part carefully, and vow. I, lover of all things nachos, will order the special nachos from Tres Club. These nachos brought tears of joy to my eyes when I first tried them. The nachos were so fresh and crunchy. The melted cheese with minced meat were just incredible, and there were some slices of jalapenos to spice things up. I loved these nachos to the point where I almost got a take out order to have more nachos at home later that night. They are addicting and I am craving them badly while writing this post. You will not regret trying these nachos and you will thank me and may want more than you can handle. I must have those glorious nachos again. I MUST!

Minced Meat Quesadillas

The next delicious looking plate to come to our table were the quesadillas. The minced meat was beef I believe and the flour tortillas looked beautiful. We both took a bite out of our quesadillas and loved them. I wish they would have been a bit warmer, but never the less I really liked them. There was so much melted cheese in there with chopped tomatoes and meat. I was interested to try the other kinds of quesadillas next time I visited.

Minced Meat and Beef Tacos

Finally, we get to the tacos. When the owner of Tres Club, or as I should call him the Master of the Mexican grill, started heating up the tortillas on the grill, the restaurant was filled with the aroma of fresh corn tortillas and it was intoxicating. We had ordered two types of tacos. The minced meat tacos and beef tacos. We were told to squeeze some lime on our tacos and then we tried the minced meat ones first. Amazing is too small a word for how great these tacos were. The tortilla was the main star of this show. I am not sure if I have had a fresher or more delicious tortilla in Japan. I believe the owner gets all his ingredients from Mexico and makes the tortillas himself.

Then, we moved on to the beef tacos. The beef was excellent. I believe the beef was grilled carne asada. That beef with that amazing corn tortilla was something that only a true master of the taco arts could have made. I bow down to the skills of Tres Club's owner and want another serving of tacos immediately. I do wish the tacos would have been bigger but then again, the size of the tacos made more room for those tasty nachos.

My wife and I really enjoyed our taco and quesadilla Tuesday, and hope to have many more in the near future. Tres Club is an amazing Mexican restaurant that everyone in Ibaraki needs to try. The dinner menu is a bit expensive but it is completely worth it.

So if you are in the mood for some Mexican style tacos and just got off the train at Moriya station, why not give Tres Club a chance. Who knows, you might see me there, enjoying those magnificent nachos with some delicious tacos.

Enjoy!
