During the summer time, the wife and I decided that we were in the mood for meat. It had been a while since we had gone to a Brazilian steakhouse. The last one we went to was in Tokyo quite some time ago. We wanted to go somewhere closer so we asked google if there was a Brazilian steakhouse that was near our area. We were surprised to see that there was, in Tsukuba! We immediately got in the car and headed on over to have meat for lunch.
Churrasco
Welcome to Churrasco! A Brazilian steakhouse near the huge Yamashin home center in Tsukuba. As we were walking toward the steakhouse, the wife and I were debating if we should do an all you can eat deal, a meat platter or something different. When we got to the entrance of the steakhouse, we took a glance at the menu.
The Lunch Menu
Everything on the lunch menu looked delicious. All the sets caught my interest but I really wanted to do a whole order different meats thing. So the wife and I decided that we would try the lunch sets another time. We looked at another menu which listed all the meats that were available.
The Meat Menu
The all you can eat menu was a bit too expensive so we decided on the different special. This special came with a slice of beef rump, then you ordered three different types of meats from the middle of the menu and finally for dessert you got a slice of BBQ pineapple. The special also came with salad, curry and rice. The wife and I decided we would not order any chicken. We ordered the サーロイン sirloin cut, 牛バラ gyubara (rib of beef), 牛もも gyumomo (beef thigh), ハラミ harami (skirt steak), 豚のスペアリブ pork spare rib and ソーセージ sausage.
The Salad
The salad, the curry and rice was a "get it yourself" type of deal. Everything is spread on a small buffet style table and you just go and grab whatever you like. The salad and the curry were not all you can eat though. It was a one time grab it and your done. The salad was OK. A nice little appetizer before our meat feast. But what really surprised me was the other side dish.
The Curry
I have this rule when I visit a restaurant, if the restaurant has curry and it is not a curry restaurant. I usually pass on it. I have gone to places like Coco's which have self serve curry and they range from meh to terrible. The wife insisted I try this curry and I reluctantly did. But once I had a spoon full my eyes lit up. This was some of the best curry I had ever had. It had big chunks of shredded meat in it which was soft and delicious. The curry wasn't spicy but not sweet either. It was perfect. I couldn't believe how great this curry was. I was so heart broken that I was only able to get one bowl of it. After finishing our curry and salad, our meats were on the way,
Sirloin, Rib of Beef and Skirt Steak
All the meats came out Brazilian steakhouse style. On a huge skewer ready to be cut and put on our plate. Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take pictures of the meat on a skewer. But if you haven't had the experience of having the meat you ordered brought to you on a skewer, cut for you slowly and then put on a plate like you were a king or queen, then I really think you should experience that. The first meats that came out were the skirt steak, sirloin, and rib of beef.
I am a huge fan of skirt steak. It has that charred taste but it is oh so soft and juicy. This skirt steak didn't disappoint. It had to be my favorite meat on the plate.
The sirloin wasn't too bad. It didn't come anywhere near the skirt steak in taste. It was a bit chewy which was kind of weird but it was good nonetheless.
The rib of beef though, I have to say I wasn't a fan. It had a bit too much fat and it just wasn't to my liking. The wife enjoyed it but I just didn't like the way it tasted. I couldn't quite put my finger on why I didn't like it, but I just didn't.
Beef Thigh and Pork Spare Rib
The next plate was the beef thigh and the pork spare rib. Unfortunately, I wasn't into this plate at all. The pork spare rib had more fat than meat so it was mostly chewy and had a weird oily flavor. The beef thigh was better than the spare rib but I can't say I enjoyed it. I am not sure what seasoning was in there but it really didn't go well with the beef.
Beef Rump and Sausage
The last plate was perfection. The beef rump and the sausage. The sausage was great. It was thick, juicy and very flavorful. I was actually wondering where I can buy this sausage and what they put in it so I can put it in a sandwich at home. The wife really enjoyed the sausage too and wondered the same thing I did.
The beef rump was exquisite. It also had that charred but soft style that the skirt steak had. It was juicy and delicious. There was just the right amount of salt in there that enhanced the flavor. I wish I could have ordered more beef rump but one slice for each of us is all we got.
The BBQ Pineapple
I again want to apologize for forgetting to take pictures of the meat on a skewer. I did however, remember to get a picture of the pineapple on the skewer.
After we had finished all our meat, it was time for dessert. In comes the BBQ pineapple. The staff cut our slices and we grabbed our slices with our tongs. Then it was time to dig in. I am not sure if you have ever had BBQ pineapple, but if you haven't, you really should. It is so juicy and delicious. Churrasco even sprinkles some cinnamon on there which is just perfect with the pineapple. The slice of pineapple was warm and cool at the same time, if that makes any sense. The wife loves BBQ pineapple and has always wanted to make it at home. This was probably her favorite part of the meal. This dessert was exceptional.
After we finished our meal, we were beyond full and ready to go. The wife and I did enjoy our meat feast. I didn't like all the meats I tried but it was still a nice lunch. We both hope we can go back some time soon to try the other lunch sets.
If you have never tried Brazilian BBQ and want to give it a go, why not give Churrasco a shot. Who knows, you might see me there, enjoying my slice of beef with that magical curry.
Enjoy!
