Have you ever had a beer and then shorty after shot an airsoft gun? No? Well, then it is time to test your alcohol tolerance and shooting skills at Alpha in Mito.
Alpha
Alpha is located in the Shiraume area of Mito. It isn't too much of a walk from Mito station, probably about 15 minutes.
The day we visited, my wife, two of our friends, and I drove to Alpha and parked in front of the place. When we walked in, we were ushered to our booth that had a life sized First Order Trooper from Star Wars chilling next to us. I was going to like this place.
The Menu
There are two menus at Alpha: the food and drink menu, and the gun menu. Let's go over the food and drink menu first shall we.
The beer on tap is Heartland beer, which I like. There are other cocktails on the menu and a coffee called Black Rifle Coffee that I want to try next time.
The food menu is two pages. The left side has small appetizer dishes like fries (garlic or cheese), basil cheese chicken, garlic shrimp, and more.
The right side has all the main courses. Pizza, pasta, sandwiches, and burgers. As for an English menu, I didn't see any unfortunately, but the owner and staff who work at Alpha used to work at the Drunken Duck. So they can definitely help you with your English order.
The Gun Menu
The way you order food, is the same way you order your gun. "I'll have the number __ please." Is all you have to say and the staff will take care of the rest. The guns all have descriptions, in Japanese only, and the descriptions all tell you what famous tv show or movie you may have seen the gun in. It is quite fun to hear my wife say "I want to use the gun from the Walking Dead."
Chilli Cheese Fries
Before we got to shooting, we got to eating. These fries were not on the regular menu, but on the specials menu. Our group gave these a try and we all had the same thought. Microwaved. Yeah, nothing really special here. It was OK, barely. This is a good dish to have a beer with and pass the time.
Candy Bacon
I wasn't expecting much from the candy bacon after my experience with the fries, but I was pleasantly surprised. The candy bacon was pretty damn good. The bacon was very soft, and piping hot with that sweet and salty flavor I love from this dish. I highly recommend trying this before you get to shooting.
Alpha Burger
The Alpha Burger was not too shabby. The patty was soft and flavorful, and the cheese was delicious and melted. The burger does come with the dreaded hard bun which I am not a fan of. But all in all, not a bad burger.
Salsa Hot Dog
Interesting. I have had a chilli dog before, but never a salsa dog. This hot dog lives up to its name. There was a lot of salsa on it. Mild salsa. It was an interesting hot dog. Not the best hot dog I have ever had, but it went well with the Heartland beer I ordered.
After our group finished our food, we headed over to the armory and gun range to check it out.
The Guns
The armory is right next to the range. The area is locked and only the staff can go in. Before you shoot, the staff will go in, get your gun and safety glasses, load your gun, and finally call you over when everything is ready.
The Range
My wife and I checked out the range before we started shooting. It is a legit shooting range. You have three areas of targets to shoot.
One is the paper target which the staff will set up and move closer or further, depending on what gun you choose. My wife chose the sniper rifle because she wanted to be like Golgo 13 (anime about a sniper who goes around assassinating people. It is pretty famous), so her target was further. My target was closer because I chose the shotgun.
The other target is under the paper target. It is a metal fan looking thing that has white disks to shoot on the ends of the fan's blades.
Finally, there are small people shaped like targets on the far right side of the wall.
The Ace Markswoman
It is incredible how good my wife is with that sniper rifle. Out of a full clip of air soft balls, she maybe missed four times. Mind you, this was the first time she had ever shot an air soft gun. She hit all the major points on the paper target, got four out of five of the disks on the fan target thing, and she hit a few of the smaller targets by the right side of the wall.
When you finish shooting, the staff will collect the paper target and you can take it home as a souvenir. My wife still has the paper target that proves her dangerous accuracy skills.
Our friends and the Ibaraki Eats Duo had a great time at Alpha. It was a lot of fun knocking back a few beers and shooting some targets. Trying out the different guns was also a lot of fun. My wife tried the revolver after the sniper rifle because she wanted to be like Rick Grimes from the Walking Dead, and again, deadly accuracy.
I do plan on going back to Alpha and trying out the other guns and menu items. My wife does too, and I am sure she will be just as deadly with the other guns.
So if you want try something fun while getting your drink on, why not give Alpha a shot (see what I did there). Who knows, you might see me there, being in a state of awe while my wife keeps hitting all her targets.
Enjoy!
