Burger Month: A Meaty Burger for Nomads

The last entry for Burger Month is about a very meaty burger. It is a story of beef and pork coming together to make an amazing burger. The burger I speak of is made by none other than Nomads Burger.

Nomads Burger

Nomads Burger is a traveling burger food stall that sets up its stall at different events. I guess this burger-grilling master is a real nomad. (Get it?) Anyway, you can usually find Nomads Burger at events in Sakuragawa City, Tsukubamirai, or other events in Southern Ibaraki.

The first time I tried Nomads Burger was at an event in Sakuragawa City called "The Day." (Yes, that was the name of the event) The event was in the historic Makabe area of Sakuragawa City and had a lot of different food trucks, food stalls, craft workshops, and Cuban sandwiches. Yes, this is where Special Boars is and I did buy a Cuban sandwich, but I saved it for later. I was craving a burger and by god, I was going to have a burger. I found Nomads' stall and checked out the menu.

The Menu

Unfortunately, the menu is only in Japanese. No worries my fellow Ibarakians, I will translate. From top to bottom: hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, and pulled pork cheeseburger.

At the bottom it says something about organic tortillas, I wasn't sure what that meant since this wasn't a taco stand.

I decided to give Nomads' pulled pork cheeseburger a try.

Grilling Time

What surprised me about Nomads was they grilled their burgers on a charcoal BBQ grill. Not many burger food trucks or stalls do that. They usually use a flat-top griller. Charcoal grill burgers have a different taste since all the fat drips down into the fire and it doesn't stay with the burger unlike when you use a flat-top burger grill. It also has a nice flame cooked taste to it after it's done.

I was really hungry waiting for my burger so I decided to have a little snack while waiting.

Smoked Nuts

If you need a side item or would like something to munch on while you wait for your burger, you can grab some of Nomads' homemade smoked nuts. There are jars of different nuts at the stall to choose from, and you can choose up to three different flavors of nuts. I highly recommend getting all the smoked nuts. They have a great smokey flavor and they were a nice little snack to have while my burger was cooking.

Pulled Pork Cheeseburger

My burger was finally done and I was ready to eat. For some reason, Nomads gives you tortilla chips, Oh! That was what the organic tortilla was all about! Anyway, it is weird having tortilla chips with a burger, but it is not an unwelcome addition to the plate. In fact, getting some fallen-over pulled pork on the tortilla chip and consuming them together was amazing.

Meaty

It was time to get into my burger. I took a huge bite and the first thing that popped into my mind was MEAT. This was a very meaty burger indeed. The beef patty with the pulled pork just took me on a meaty roller coaster of carnivorous fun. The pulled pork is made by Nomads and it had a hard and tangy taste like BBQ sauce. Not sweet like Buddy's Rib Company in Tsuchiura makes it. The beef patty was 100% beef. Not very juicy but it had that BBQ grilled smokey flavor that was fantastic. There were some cartilage parts of the burger that kind of threw me off but they were far and in-between. The buns were pretty good and held the burger somewhat well. Unfortunately, the cheese was non-existent. One slice of cheese doesn't work for this meaty burger. I forgot it was a cheeseburger halfway in. I should also mention, that when I was getting towards the end of the burger, the rest of the patty fell out into the burger bag. I had to fish out the remaining beef patty. Still, an excellent burger for an excellent event.

The Sakuragawa City event "The Day" was a fun event and Nomads made a fantastic burger. I was glad I could experience both last Saturday and hope that Sakuragawa City brings back this event next year for everyone to enjoy. I also hope I see Nomads Burger again at the next event I attend.

So if you are walking around an event and smell BBQ grilled burgers, follow that smell until you reach Nomads Burger and give their burgers a try. Who knows, you might see me there, enjoying a burger and having some smoked nuts for a side.

Enjoy!
