I wrote about Twin Peaks Mountain Brewing last year and made it my "best surprise" of 2022 in my wrap up post. Ever since then, I have wanted to go back to Twin Peaks and have some of their incredible beer. I finally got the chance to go back on a Sunday in March, right after Burger Baka Vol. 8. I was also in good company and had an amazing time.
That day my wife, our friends and I met up at Twin Peaks to grab some beers. I was pretty happy to see that Twin Peaks was so busy that Sunday. It was a good thing we had a reservation before hand. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to grab a table. We were pretty full from Burger Baka, but we still ordered some small dishes to have with our beers.
Assorted Morsels
The assorted morsels set comes with pickels, cream cheese, and prosciutto. If you are more interested in Twin Peaks' beer but would like something to pick at, this is the right choice for you. I really liked the pickels. It was nice to have something salty with my Weizen beer.
Currywurst Set
This is where it's at when it comes to Twin Peaks, their sausages. I talked about the assorted sausage platter before and how great it was. This time we tried the currywurst set with two different sausages. We ordered chorizo and krakauer. (I might be wrong about the krakauer. Apologies I completely forgot the second sausage we ordered.) Mixing the curry with those sausages was delicious and I really enjoyed it. But to be honest, I like the assorted sausage platter better. With the platter you get a real taste of the sausages. With this set, the curry kind of overpowers the sausage. Dipping the fries in the curry was awesome though.
Let's move onto the beers. The beers on tap that day were all Twin Peaks originals I believe. They were all great but one ruled supreme in my opinion.
Number 3 Hazy IPA
I have stated before that I am not an IPA guy. But I am a hazy IPA guy. Twin Peaks' hazy IPA is very tasty. I really wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. But that is what Twin Peaks does. They surprise you and blow your mind with their original beers. This hazy IPA did not disappoint and I can't wait to have it again. Hopefully in the near future.
Number 2 Weizen
Next we have the Weizen. The Weizen was pretty good and I think it had a more IPA flavor than the hazy IPA did. It was definitely hoppier (Is that a word?), but I liked it. It had a heavy taste but not a super filling beer.
Number 1 Kolsch
I believe the number 1 was the Kolsch. It was a lighter beer and pretty refreshing. I think this is a nice beer to have during a hot day in summer. Full disclosure, I am 90% sure the number 1 was the Kolsch but I maybe wrong. I'm not a beer expert and I forgot to take a picture of the beers on tap. Plus, I was a bit tipsy at this point. But I am definitely right about the other beers.
Number 4 ALT
The ALT was the complete opposite of the Kolsch. It was a darker, heavier beer, and very delicious. I think the ALT was my second favorite beer of the night. This beer felt like a stay in while it's cold outside beer.
My Favorite: Hazy IPA
After trying all the beers on tap, I have to say that my favorite was the Hazy IPA. I ended up ordering it again and getting the 300ml glass. I really enjoyed that beer and would definitely order it again.
I had a great time a Twin Peaks. It was lovely catching up with good friends, enjoying amazing beers, and trying some curry coated sausages. I even learned about how some big Japanese beer companies still use the original German brewing method, and how tonkatsu is similar to Weiner Schnitzel. The owner of Twin Peaks disagrees with both statements, but I have it on good authority that those statements are correct.
I don't have many favorite places to drink in Ibaraki. I originally only had one in Hitachinaka, the Drunken Duck. But now I have a favorite place in Tsukuba, and I can't wait to head back and grab a beer at Twin Peaks again.

A special thank you to Jundo Cohen and Chris Bathke for the invite and for the company. I truly had a good time drinking with you guys, and hope to do it again soon.
