Summer Isn't Over Yet!

Updated: Aug 27, 2022

It is the last week of August and summer is coming to a close. Soon it will be time for fall foods, Halloween, and Christmas merchandise being on the shelves way to earlier. But for the next couple of weeks, it is still going to be hot and humid. You still have time to enjoy some cool delicious desserts before the weather cools down.

The Ibaraki Eats Duo recently went to a place to cool down and get our kakigori on, that place is Shunsai Cafe.

Shunsai Cafe

Shunsai Cafe is located in the Tsutsumi area of Naka city. The cafe is surrounded by flower shops and other flower stuff. Even the parking area wall has pictures of flowers.

The Ibaraki Eats Duo went to Shunsai Cafe on a hot Tuesday afternoon looking to cool down with something sweet and delicious.

Inside

When you walk inside, you can tell this place is new. I don't think it has been open for even a year yet. It isn't a big cafe. I believe the cafe can fit up to twelve people max.

We sat down at a table for two and checked out the menu on the wall.

The Menu

Shunsai Cafe seems to have a lot of pasta dishes and pizza. The cafe also prides itself on all the fresh vegetables they use in their dishes. I hope to come back and try those dishes someday. That hot day however, we wanted kakigori.

The kakigori menu includes: strawberry, mango, coffee jelly, black sugar kinako, and a special limited time peach flavor.

Strawberry Kakigori

Look at that mountain of kakigori. It looks so beautiful. What shocked me about this kakigori was, it wasn't just plain old strawberry sugar sryup. This was straight up handmade strawberry sryup with small chunks of strawberries. Even better was, the staff gave me some extra sryup to pour on my kakigori in case I needed more. I got a spoon full of that shaved ice and it was fantastic. The strawberry sryup was out of this world and the kakigori had a nice surprise inside.

Surprise Inside

Not sure if you can see it from this picture, but there was a scoop of vanilla ice cream inside the kakigori! The mix of that ice cream, shaved ice, and some of the best strawberry sryup I have ever had, was absolutely glorious.

Peach Kakigori

I wasn't the only one happy with their kakigori. My wife was in kakigori heaven. She ordered the special limited time peach kakigori. It brought slices of fresh peaches in it! My wife let me try some of her kakigori and I have to say, the peach slices with condensed milk is a work of a master in the kakigori arts. Every spoonful was heavenly and my wife agreed 100%.

Cafe Latte

After we finished our kakigori, we both had brain freeze and wanted to warm up. So we ordered a big cup of cafe latte. The taste really wasn't anything special but we did receive a lot cafe latte, and look at that face. It is so nice and calming to see that cute latte art in my cafe latte.

I know I talked about kakigori last week and I told you to go to Tsuchiura to get some, but I think it is vital for all kakigori lovers to visit Shunsai Cafe. The kakigori here is on another level and I can't wait to go back for more. Plus, I also want to try the other menu items that the cafe has to offer.

So if you are feeling the heat and need something to help cool you down, why not go for the delicious kakigori option at Shunsai Cafe. Who knows, you might see me there, eating a mountain of kakigori and fighting off brain freeze.

Enjoy!
