Time for Crepes!

Where can you get some good crepes in Tsuchiura? Some people living here may tell you to go to the train station that has a crepe take-out window during the weekends. Sure, you can get those if you like day-old crepes. I say you should go to the neighborhood near Suigo Park, and try THE best crepes Tsuchiura has to offer.

Kijitora Crepe

Kijitora Crepe is located in the Komatsu area of Tsuchiura. This crepe shop is in the middle of a neighborhood close to Suigo Park. It is about a 10-minute walk from the park and a 25-minute walk from the station. If you come by car, there really isn't any parking. My wife and I went on a Tuesday evening and parked next to the rice field close to Kijitora. Kijitora has a small bench and table by the order window of the crepe shop, so you can have your crepe there if you feel like eating outside. The day we visited, the Ibaraki Eats Duo decided to have our crepes in our car with the air conditioner going.

The Menu

There are quite a lot of crepes to choose from on the menu. Good news for all you students, you get a small discount for some of the crepes! Unfortunately, the menu is only in Japanese. Not to worry, I will try and translate.

The special crepes are the Mecha Ichigo (a lot of strawberries), Chocolate Mountain, and Summer's Chocolate Mountain.

There are also regular flavors like caramel nuts, chocolate brownie, Japanese anko, strawberry ice cream, chocolate banana, matcha banana, and caramel banana.

You can also get non-dessert like crepes like the ham and cheese crepe, or the tuna cheese crepe.

Mecha Ichigo

At the time of writing this, the mecha ichigo is available but at the time of posting this blog entry, it may be off the menu. Strawberries are seasonal, so I believe this mecha ichigo is only available in the spring.

This was my wife's crepe. She took a bite out of the cream and crepe and gave me a thumbs up. She let me try it next and I completely agreed with her thumbs up. Fresh-cut strawberries, a warm newly made crepe, and an ocean of cream are the formula for an amazing strawberry crepe. This crepe had that and more. There were four strawberries at the top of the crepe with some hidden ones inside the crepe. So every time you bit into the crepe, you had a good chance of getting a nice strawberry surprise.

Chocolate Mountain

This was my crepe, the Chocolate Mountain. Why is it called the Chocolate Mountain? Look at that picture. The top of the crepe is full of chocolate cream in the shape of a mountain. I bit into the top of the crepe and got a tidal wave of chocolate cream and some fresh newly made crepe. It was heavenly. Getting all that chocolate cream reminded me of that scene in Willy Wonka, when that kid was eating chocolate out of the chocolate river and fell in. It was chocolate overload but in a good way. The inside of the crepe had chocolate wafers in it which gave this treat a surprising crunch when you bit into the crepe. I loved the chocolate mountain and hope to have it again sometime soon.

Delicious!

This dessert trip to Kijitora Crepe was the highlight of our evening. The next time we are around Suigo Park, we are definitely heading to Kijitora Crepe to have the best crepes Tsuchiura has to offer.

By the way

If you are a skater, Kijitora Crepe has a small skate park next to their shop. I believe it is free to use. After skating around for a bit, you could grab an amazing crepe and then continue skating. Sounds like a good time to me!

So if you are around Suigo Park and have a craving for something sweet, why not head over to Kijitora Crepe for some fantastic crepes? Who knows, you might see me there, enjoying my chocolate mountain crepe while pondering if I am ordering another one.

Enjoy!
