Well my fellow Ibarakians, welcome to the last but not least, Burger Month post. I honestly feel comfortable saying this, but I saved the best for last. I know my Tsukuba people are excited since the last three burger places I posted about were in Tsukuba. Sorry my Tsukuba people, this amazing burger place I will talk about today is in Ushiku and oh my god, it's delicious.
Oh My God Burger
Oh My God Burger, yes that is the name of the burger place and what an amazing name it is, is located in central Ushiku. It is literally a one minute walk from the east exit of Ushiku station. You can't miss this place. There is a huge sign that says "hamburger" on it, a hamburger light up sign, and big plastic hamburgers outside. If you drive here, you unfortunately have to use the pay for parking areas across the street from OMG Burger. Careful with one parking area that has a gigantic hole by the entrance. It made my wife and I cringe when we drove over it.
Inside
My wife and I visited this place a few weeks ago on a Tuesday during the lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse and burgers? Perfect date night! I immediately loved the inside of the place when I walked in. It had a relaxed American 90s burger place atmosphere. You have two choices in seating. You can sit at a table with normal chairs or you can sit at a table and couch area and chill. Since my wife didn't want burger sauce on her shirt, we chose a table with normal chairs. OMG Burger is bigger than all the burger places I visited for Burger Month. I think it can maybe fit up to 20-25 people max. There is a lot of space and a lot of cool stuff to look at around the restaurant. After admiring the restaurant, the Ibaraki Eats Duo picked up the menu while early 90s No Doubt was playing overhead.
The Menu
I got some good news and some bad news. The good news is the toppings section and drinks section is in both English and Japanese. The bad news is, that the most important part of the menu, the burgers section is only in Japanese. I will start with the top burgers first: Jack Nicholson Burger ( yes this is the name of the burger, and yes the owner told me he named it after the actor), this burger brings almost all the toppings OMG Burger has to offer and two beef patties. Garlic Butter Nicholson, this brings two patties, onion rings, and garlic butter sauce. Des Nicholson, a spicy burger which brings two patties, bacon, and chili sauce. Yellow Nicholson, two patties, two types of cheeses, and honey mustard sauce.
As for the other burgers, I will go from right to left: bacon cheese burger, chili burger, avocado burger, Hawaii burger, bacon egg and cheese burger, cheese burger, cream cheese sweet chili burger, spicy burger, egg cheese burger, jalapeno cheese burger, three by three burger, chili cheese burger, avocado cheese burger, standard burger, and bacon egg burger.
The chicken burgers are: grilled chicken, chili chicken, avocado chicken, Hawaii chicken, cheese chicken, and bacon egg chicken burger.
The sides menu is: fries, chicken nuggets, onion rings, avocado salad, and tomato salad.
Ordering
All the ordering here is done by smart phone. Just scan the QR code and pick what burger you like on your device. For non-Japanese speakers, the menu maybe a bit difficult to read on your smart phone so just have the automatic google translation change everything into English and you are all set. Tap on your burger, tap to finalize your order, and you're done. Make sure to bring this QR code paper with you when you go to pay.
Onion Rings
My wife and I ordered some onion rings to start. We got a pretty good serving of onion rings and they were delicious. The crunchy outside with that melts in your mouth broiled onion on the inside was heaven. It was more oily than it needed to be but that was in no way shape or form a deal breaker. I will be having these onion rings again in the future.
Bacon Egg Cheeseburger
The Bacon Egg Cheeseburger was my wife's burger. The burger presentation was excellent and my wife really liked the flag on top. She let me get a bite in and then I realized why this place was called OMG Burger. This burger truly elicits the reaction, "oh my god," followed by "this is delicious!" I loved this burger and my wife was extremely impressed. The bacon needs a bit more cooking but other than that, this burger was magnificent. The fried egg with that unforgettable beef patty is something I still think about everyday. Oh, and the fries were pretty damn delicious as well. They are homemade and pretty tasty. I would have liked them to be a bit more crispy. Other than that, I loved the fries and the two slices of pickles that came in a cute small rubbery frying pan.
Yellow Nicholson
I order the Yellow Nicholson which I forgot to mention comes with a big serving of fries. I was already impressed by my wife's burger but my burger blew my mind. The owner of OMG burger knows what he is doing when it comes to beef patties. The melted cheese, honey mustard, and beef patties all together was something out of a fantastic burger fairy tale, where the burger saves the day. The buns were great as well. I thought the burger would fall apart because of the honey mustard but it held up surprisingly well. While I was eating this burger, a song from the early 90s, Freaky With You by Silk, was playing overhead. It was appropriate because I loved this burger way too much and yes, I did want to get freaky with Yellow Nicholson. But in a burger loving eating way not...shut up.
Burger You Will Have
My time and burger meal at OMG Burger was truly a night to remember. I still can't forget about those beef patties. I have been to a lot of burger places and I have to say OMG Burger made quite an impression on me. The location is super convenient, the 90s nostalgia was fun, and the burgers are next level. I think that OMG Burger has made it onto my top 5 burger places in Ibaraki. I hope to come back soon, real soon. I still have the other Jack Nicholson burgers to try.
So if you are hanging out around Ushiku and have a craving for burgers, you have to check out Oh My God Burger. Who knows, you might see me there, enjoying a Jack Nicholson burger while bopping my head to some early 90s music.
Enjoy!
