Happy New Year my fellow Ibarakians! 2022 was quite a year in Japan. We had a summer of a huge wave of corona, but then a fall full of events and some normacy. Here is hoping that 2023 brings more of that normacy we have come to love. Without further ado, here are this year's winners for the Ibaraki Eats year end categories. As always, the categories are:
Best Event
Most Fun Place
Best Sweets
Biggest Surprise
Best Event
Village Market Tsukuba
I know what you are thinking. For the past two years I have declared Burger Baka the winner so this year will be the same right? Wrong! Even though Burger Baka was amazing this year, two other events stole my heart. I debated with myself for quite a while if either the Tsukuba Craft Beer Festival or Village Market Tsukuba would take the title. I had a great time at both and enjoyed a lot of amazing drinks and food at both. After a while of deep thought, I have to give it to Village Market Tsukuba. The friendly people, amazing coffee, global cuisine, and fresh produce makes this reoccurring event enjoyable and a must visit event.

Most Fun Place
Shooting Bar Alpha Mito
I went to a lot of fun events and places this past year. But none of those places let me have a beer, rent an airsoft gun, and let me shoot at targets with my friends. Alpha is a fun place to let out some stress, hang out with friends, or just work on your aim. It also showed me how scary accurate my wife is.

Best Sweets
Espresso D' Works
I had a lot of sweets and desserts this year. A lot of amazing shaved ice during summer, a Halloween afternoon tea time, and home made ice cream with amazing coffee. All of those sweets were beyond good, but D' Works pancakes and French toast brought a tear of joy to my eyes. Finally! French toast done right, and with 100% bread.

Biggest Surprise
Twin Peaks Mountain Brewing
Quite a lot of places surprised me this year. ¡Vamos! blew my mind with their amazing gyros, but Twin Peaks Mountain Brewing was a surprise like no other. I had no idea this place was going to be so good. From their amazing German beer to their fantastic sausage platter. It really was a pleasant surprise and a place that I need to go back and visit soon.

Well, that is all from Ibaraki Eats for 2022. I want to thank my lovely wife for all the adventures we went on this past year, the wonderful restaurants and event organizers for amazing food and fun times, and finally you, my fellow Ibarakians. Thank you for reading and thank you for the nice messages, the recommendations, and words of encouragement. I hope you, your family, and friends have a very Happy New Year.
I will be doing my three week vacation as usual, so no Ibaraki Eats for a little while. Fear not, the Ibaraki Eats Duo still has a lot of places to visit and talk about next year. Happy New Year!
